Neepawa Branch
The Neepawa Branch of Victoria's Quilts Canada (VQC) was established in 2013 with just four members. It now has over 30 volunteers who make about 250 quilts each year. These quilts are delivered throughout Manitoba, as Neepawa is the only VQC Branch in the province. Quilts for recipients located in communities surrounding Neepawa (which is 162 km northwest of Winnipeg) are hand delivered, while those for more distant communities are mailed. As of January 2021, the Branch has gifted 1140 quilts.
VQC-Neepawa Branch has sewing days in local halls and meets regularly to create kits. It is helped by people across Manitoba and is lucky to have quilters in Portage, Steinbach, Minnedosa and Brandon who regularly donate quilt tops to the Branch. Long-arm quilting is mostly completed for a nominal fee by Country Lane Quilters. Much of the fabric required to make the quilts is purchased, but VQC-Neepawa does receive donations from generous individuals. Grants and fundraisers also provide funding. Because we are a provincial organization, we receive grants from four different community foundations: Winnipeg, Brandon, Beautiful Plains and Minnedosa.
